About Liberty Lacrosse
Liberty Lacrosse Club provides an opportunity for youth in grades K-12 to learn and enjoy boys' lacrosse. We attract players living within the Liberty High School attendance boundary, which includes South Issaquah, Renton Highlands, and Newcastle communities. Our primary season runs February through May. Summer tournaments and Fall Ball sessions are held to keep players active in the sport throughout the year.
Founded in 2009, Liberty Lacrosse formed its first Division II Varsity Lacrosse Team. In 2012 the decision was made to add youth teams for both 5/6th and 7/8th grades to begin play for the 2013 season. Also for 2013, Liberty Lacrosse will field Varsity and Junior Varsity High School Teams. In 2014, Liberty Lacrosse continued it's growth by adding a team for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th graders and expanding all existing levels.
About the Game
Lacrosse is a contact sport that bears similarities to basketball, soccer and hockey. It has origins in a centuries old Native American game that has evolved to the sport of today. The game is more about coordination and agility than brawn. It is played outdoors on a field similar in size to that of soccer.
Players advance a small rubber ball across the field by carrying it in their stick (crosse) or by passing to teammates. Attacking teams score on spectacular breakaways and calculated set plays. The defending team attempts to dislodge the ball with stick and body checks, intercept passes, and block shots, hoping to recover the ball to launch a fierce counterattack.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the U.S. with over a 63% increase in active youth players over the last 10 years. There is nationwide participation in the sport at the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Liberty Lacrosse Club honors the game by introducing this sport in a positive environment that promotes a love of fitness and competition, resilience of spirit in the face of challenge, and the belief in the principles of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Club Lacrosse is not a public school-sponsored sport, so participants must cover all club expenses. The Liberty Lacrosse Club organization holds annual fundraising activities to help supplement funds for these costs. Field rental costs consume the majority of our budget leaving remaining funds for equipment, uniforms, and tournament fees. Scholarships may be provided to families who can't affort to participate otherwise. We are continually looking for opportunities to enrich the quality of our club and development of players, including recruiting events, coach education, and attracting experienced lacrosse staff to coach senior levels.
Liberty Lacrosse Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Financial support from community businesses and corporations are integral to our success. Our sponsorship program offers a range of visibility through digital advertising and on-site recognition at Liberty Lacrosse Club events and distributed materials.
Inclusion in Liberty Lacrosse printed materials such as shirts and flyers require commitment by February 1.
